The Best Red Wine Sangria Recipe
_______________________________________________
This is my favorite sangria!
I had this sangria as a guest at a friend’s house and had to have the recipe. My friend is Ukranian and says the secret ingredient is blackberry juice. (I thought she was going to say vodka : )
Sangria often tastes like watered down wine with fruit. This sangria packs a punch. Whenever I serve it, I get so many compliments, and there is never any left!
Serves 12
Red Wine Sangria
This is a strong sangria, not the watered down or over sweetened version often served.
Equipment
- 1 pretty sangria glass!
Ingredients
- 2 bottles red wine (pick your favorite type of wine, but don't buy an expensive brand)
- 1 cup citrus flavored liquor such as triple sec, combier grand marnier...,
- 1 cup blackberry brandy (a nice brand is preferable like the Polish brandy Leroux, not Hiram Walker which tastes like medicine)
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1 cup blackberry juice or mulberry juice (if you can't find either, then use grape juice)
- diced fruit (apples, lemons, limes, berries, melon....)
- OPTIONAL: 1 can of seltzer or 1 cup of champagne added just before serving if you want a sparkling /bubbly sangria
Instructions
- Mix all of the ingredients including the fruit into one large container.
- Let it sit overnight in the refrigerator for the flavors to blend. It really makes a big difference in the taste. THIS STEP IS NOT OPTIONAL.Do not put ice in the sangria. This will water it down. Instead, serve it over ice in the glass.
- OPTIONAL: Just before serving, you can add a cup of seltzer or champagne to the sangria if you like a bubbly sangria.
- Serve in a nice cup with or without ice, your preference.
- OPTIONAL: Garnish with a piece of fruit or mint or an umbrella or nothing. Your preference.
